Background
EPHA is a legally registered national, independent, not-for-profit, voluntary professional association established in 1989 with a vision to attainment of the highest possible standard of health for all Ethiopians. EPHA has recently retained a survey management sub-grant with the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Program (ICAP) at Columbia University in support of the Ethiopia Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (EPHIA) project. The EPHIA project estimates the population-level impact of the national HIV prevention, care and treatment programs in Ethiopia to provide a better understanding of national and sub-national HIV epidemic trends and population-level program achievements.

As part of this effort, EPHA would like to hire experienced Interviewers who would collect data of the EPHIA survey at the field.

Job Summary
The Interviewers have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Attend all the required training;
  • Approach survey participants as assigned by Team Leader;
  • Assess eligibility of household members for enrollment;
  • Clearly explain the survey procedures in a language that the participant understands;
  • Conduct interview consent procedures using the tablet and paper forms;
  • Conduct individual interviews using the tablet;
  • Conduct biomarker consent procedures using the tablet and paper forms;
  • Provide confidential pre and post-test HIV counseling;
  • Collect blood sample using aseptic techniques as per the survey’s standard operating procedure (SOP);
  • Test the indicated biomarkers at the field;
  • Ensure proper labeling of tubes and sample tracking forms;
  • Ensure proper packaging and maintaining cold chain for daily sample transport;
  • Ensure linkage for biomarker positive survey participants to the nearby health facility as per the SOP;
  • Provide referrals for social services as needed;
  • Perform QC samples every week;
  • Ensure confidentiality of survey data;
  • Report any unanticipated incident;
  • Inform the Team Leader of interviews completed and partially completed on a daily basis;
  • Ensure tablet security is maintained throughout the survey; 
  • Give the tablet to the Team Leader to review and upload data at the end of each day;
  • Inform the Team Leader and schedule return visits for any incomplete interviews;
  • Attend daily, weekly and monthly team meetings;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Nursing will be given a priority or Bachelor degree in Public Health with nursing background or (Diploma in Nursing for emerging regions) from a recognized university;
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in clinical services or health related programs, including HIV testing and counseling;
  • Able and willing to travel 90% of the time to assigned locations.
